Phoenix Art Museum and FOCUS on European Art are collaborating to feature an event that brings attention to lesser-known women artists from the 17th-century Dutch Baroque period. Virginia Treanor, Senior Curator at the National Museum for Women in the Arts, will be leading a discussion titled "Women Protagonists of the Dutch Baroque" as part of The Collection: Dutch Art Expanded exhibition. This event is scheduled for January 30 at 7 pm at Phoenix Art Museum.

The exhibition highlights artworks from the period between 1610 and 1670 when Dutch art experienced significant growth in the Netherlands. It combines landscape, portraiture, interior, and still life paintings with prints and decorative objects from Phoenix Art Museum's collection. Arizona-based artists Rachel Bess and Alanna Airitam contribute contemporary works inspired by this historical era.

Dr. Virginia Treanor is noted for her expertise in Dutch and Flemish art of the 17th century. Her role includes curating exhibitions that bring to light contributions made by historical women artists. Treanor holds a Ph.D. in this field from the University of Maryland and has worked with several prestigious institutions like the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

FOCUS on European Art supports educational initiatives with a special focus on European art history through various events and partnerships.
