The Arizona Cardinals are preparing for the potential debut of first-round draft pick Darius Robinson, who may play his first game this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Despite being listed as questionable, there is optimism about his participation.
Coach Jonathan Gannon commented on Robinson's situation, stating that "if D-Rob is able to play, we have a plan for that, how to use him, because it is his first game back and hasn't played a snap yet." He emphasized the importance of being cautious with Robinson's return but expressed excitement at the prospect.
Robinson's role in the game is expected to be limited to a specific number of defensive snaps. The team will monitor his workload closely as he joins fellow linemen L.J. Collier, Roy Lopez, Dante Stills, Naquan Jones, and Khyiris Tonga.
Reflecting on his potential debut, Robinson said after practice on Wednesday: "I can't wait. I watch a lot of football every Sunday and to think I will be out there one of these Sundays is exciting."
Defensive coordinator Nick Rallis noted that while Robinson has been practicing diligently, "there's nothing that will mimic the exact game." Rallis highlighted the need for Robinson to experience live gameplay to gauge his stamina accurately.
Robinson acknowledged this challenge himself by saying he doesn't know how he'll fare until he's actively playing in games. Nevertheless, he's been focusing on building endurance during practices.
Looking ahead at what might unfold when facing another team, Robinson was careful not to set specific expectations but shared confidence in his abilities: "I learned I could do this," he said. "I can compete."
As he navigates the typical learning curve faced by rookies like Marvin Harrison Jr., both players are expected to grow into impactful roles within their respective positions over time.
