The Phoenix Mercury has announced the signing of three players to training camp contracts. Guards Monique Akoa Makani and Shyla Heal, along with forward Alexis Prince, will join the team.
Monique Akoa Makani is currently playing for Charnay Basket in France. She averages 14.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 2.8 steals per game while shooting 41.6% from three-point range over 19 games. Of Cameroonian-French descent, she has represented Cameroon in the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket and the 2024 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers.
Shyla Heal hails from Townsville, Australia, and is averaging 17.6 points on a 39.2% three-point shooting percentage with Tarsus Belediyesi Mersin in Turkey through 22 games. She won a bronze medal with the Opals at the 2023 FIBA Asia Cup and was selected eighth overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2021 WNBA Draft.
Alexis Prince is currently playing for Elitzur Ramla in Israel, where she averages 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and contributes significantly in other areas through her performance in 22 games. Prince was drafted by the Mercury as the 29th overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft after completing a five-year career at Baylor University.
The Phoenix Mercury's season opener for the WNBA regular season is scheduled for May 17 against the Seattle Storm at home.
