The future of the controversial "Tush Push" play in the NFL is set for discussion at the upcoming Florida owners meetings. The Green Bay Packers have proposed a rule change to prohibit an offensive player from pushing a teammate who was lined up directly behind the snapper and receives the snap, immediately at the snap. This proposal specifically targets the "Tush Push," a play made famous by the Philadelphia Eagles with quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Falcons CEO and Competition Committee co-chairman Rich McKay commented on this proposal during a conference call, stating, "The thing that nobody likes about the discussion we are having is the idea a rule is directed toward two teams." He noted that it would be up to the Packers and supporting teams to explain their reasons for wanting this change.
Last season, only two teams—the Eagles and Buffalo Bills—used this play more than five times. The Cardinals also experimented with it in one game against the Chargers but had mixed results.
In addition to this proposal, other topics under consideration at the meetings include making last season's dynamic kickoff experiment permanent, introducing seeded-by-record playoffs, and expanding replay assist capabilities to remove flags but not to introduce new penalties.
