Violet Bidwill's tenure as owner of the Cardinals began in 1947 when she joined the team at training camp in Waukesha, Wisconsin. During that time, she observed the post-World War II roster and remarked to the Waukesha Freeman newspaper, "I think all the teams in the league are good this year," adding optimism about the team's seven home games and their potential to attract crowds.

Following her husband Charles Sr.'s passing in April 1947, Violet became the first female owner in NFL history. Her prediction for the team was realized when they won the NFL championship later that season. She expressed her wish that her late husband could have witnessed their success.

Her grandson, Michael Bidwill, current owner of the Cardinals, reflected on Violet's impact during Women's History Month: "She was a wonderful person and was in a tough situation with losing her husband at a young age." He noted how she decided to take over family businesses, including running the Cardinals until her death in 1962.

Paul Cannon/AP captured a moment from that championship victory where Violet received congratulations from her son Bill Bidwill and halfback Elmer Angsman.

Michael shared conversations with Bengals owner Mike Brown, who recalled his father describing Violet as a "shrewd businesswoman" who commanded respect among fellow owners. Michael added, "She didn't suffer fools, and she was right there in meetings with other owners."

In 1960, Violet moved the franchise from Chicago to St. Louis. She appointed her sons Stormy and Bill to leadership roles within the organization. After Violet passed away in 1962 at age 62, Stormy and Bill continued managing both team operations and other family ventures. Eventually, Bill took sole control after buying out Stormy's share in 1972.

Michael credits his father's inclusive outlook to growing up under his mother's leadership: "He grew up with a woman owner of the team...he had a perspective for seeing people with their merit."

Today, women hold significant roles within Cardinals' operations. Lisa Manning serves as senior vice president of marketing, playing an essential role according to Michael: "Lisa has helped navigate us through a lot of things...I know if Violet were alive, she'd be proud."

Violet Bidwill's legacy continues through ongoing family pride and contributions by women like Manning across Bidwill enterprises.
