Maricopa County has marked the opening of Centerline on Glendale, a 368-unit affordable housing community situated west of downtown Glendale. This development also introduces Local First Arizona’s Glendale Community Kitchen.

Supervisor Steve Gallardo from District 5 stated, “Too many West Valley families are struggling to make ends meet and are forced to make difficult decisions to afford rent and keep their fridge stocked.” He added that the project demonstrates how affordable housing developments contribute more than just accommodation, fostering stronger communities with access to essential amenities.

Centerline on Glendale exemplifies community-based economic growth. The Local First Arizona Glendale Community Kitchen offers an on-site commercial kitchen for entrepreneurs in the West Valley's small food-based businesses. Additional features include a splash pad, dog park, business incubation space, fitness and recreation center, a 13-acre walking path, electric vehicle charging stations, and wraparound supportive services available on-site.

The community will offer quality affordable housing options for individuals including families with children, seniors, veterans, formerly homeless individuals, and those with special needs. The apartments are designed for accessibility to accommodate residents with physical disabilities or sensory impairments. Rent prices range from $476 to $2,054 for one-, two-, and three-bedroom units available to households earning between 0-80% of the countywide Area Median Income (AMI).

Maricopa County contributed $6 million in Affordable Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds towards this project. It is Arizona's first affordable housing community financed using state low-income housing tax credits. The development is a collaborative effort involving Maricopa County, the City of Glendale, the Arizona Department of Housing, and other state agencies.
