The 2024 season was not one that Baron Browning, an outside linebacker, wishes to repeat. After being traded from the Broncos shortly before the deadline, Browning struggled with a foot injury and took time to adjust to his new team. "I was just trying to push through it and make the most of the opportunities I had," he stated. He expressed enthusiasm about having a full offseason with the Cardinals, which would allow him to build chemistry with teammates and become comfortable in their system.
Browning felt he only hit his stride towards the end of the season. On the "Cardinals Cover 2" podcast, he mentioned finding his rhythm when facing the Seahawks in Week 14. In eight games with Arizona, Browning recorded 14 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks. Despite being traded mid-season, expectations were managed by allowing him freedom on the field. "They kind of just let me go play so that's also a good thing because as a player, you want to be able to go play fast," said Browning.
His performance convinced the Cardinals to re-sign him for two more years before free agency began. "I believe in what we're trying to build here," said Browning regarding his decision. With no lingering injuries and a full offseason ahead, Browning is preparing for an improved 2025 season where he anticipates taking on more defensive responsibilities.
Additionally, there will be changes within his team as Matt Feeney joins as coach. "I'm looking forward to continue to build a relationship with him and get to know (Matt)," remarked Browning after their initial meeting.
Defensive coordinator Nick Rallis recalled evaluating Browning during his draft year in 2021 over Zoom; even then, Browning's intelligence and athleticism were apparent qualities that made him desirable for retention by the Cardinals' staff.
Browning reciprocated these sentiments: "If you got a girlfriend who is a 10, why play around?"
