Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) recently hosted its first Mixtape concert, part of the Center for Performing Arts (CPA) Rock series. The event attracted nearly 300 attendees and featured a community-curated selection of songs.

"Each song in the PVCC Mixtape concert was handpicked by the community, blending legendary hits from Chicago, Rush, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Wonder, Chappell Roan, Otis Redding, Alanis Morissette, Cake, and The Cure," said Veda Garret from PVCC. "The energy was electric, and attendees had an incredible time, with one audience member even exclaiming, 'My cheeks hurt from smiling through the whole concert!'"

An opening reception preceded the main event. Attendees enjoyed appetizers provided by CortadoBC and interacted with friends and faculty while raising over $650 for the MIS Scholarship Fund.

"Reception attendees had the opportunity to step back in time and play their favorite cassette tapes on a boombox! Who doesn’t love Huey Lewis and the News, the BeeGees, and Billy Joel?" commented Becky Barndt from the Office of Strategic Partnerships.

"The night celebrated the power of music and community spirit," stated Dr. Chris Scinto from Fine and Performing Arts Faculty.

The Music Industry Studies department plans to host another rock concert next semester with an MTV theme. More information about upcoming events at CPA can be found on their website.
