Lynn Clark, an accounting professor at Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC), is recognized for her commitment to transforming the educational experience for her students. As the Accounting Program director and Business and IT Division Chair, Clark uses her 35 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to make accounting accessible and engaging.
Clark acknowledges the unique challenges faced by today's students, especially those affected by the pandemic. “The students we teach today face different hurdles than those of the past, especially those whose education was disrupted by the pandemic. Many are still working to strengthen their study skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities while also rising to the challenge of academic rigor,” she said.
Her teaching philosophy focuses on meeting students where they are, offering guidance and resources tailored to individual needs while maintaining high standards. In her classroom, collaboration and critical thinking are emphasized through interactive note-taking rather than traditional lectures.
“I hope to inspire the next generation of accountants and get them ready for their future careers,” Clark expressed. She highlights diverse career paths in accounting such as managerial roles, forensic accounting, tax consulting, government work, and nonprofit sectors.
PVCC President Dr. Jana Schwartz praised Clark's dedication: "Lynn Clark's passion for teaching and her commitment to student success are truly inspiring. She embodies the values of our institution, and her contributions to our accounting program and the lives of our students are immeasurable."
Clark's influence extends beyond academics; she helps students connect with real-world opportunities through her network in Phoenix's business community. Stephanie Papadopoulos, a 2024 graduate in accounting, credited Clark’s enthusiasm for motivating her career choice. “Clark was so enthusiastic and encouraging that it made me want to work harder," she noted.
First-generation student Cami Frogge described Clark as a mentor: “There are no words to fully capture the impact Professor Clark has had on my life." Frogge highlighted how Clark’s passion made learning enjoyable while providing valuable insights from her professional experiences.
Beyond teaching courses like Principles of Accounting I & II and Managerial Accounting, Clark assists students with job placements and internships. Her leadership includes serving as faculty advisor for PVCC’s Business and Technology Club/DECA Chapter.
Clark has been instrumental in developing PVCC’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting program. Her accolades include being named Club Advisor of the Year in 2019 and receiving both the League for Innovation Employee Excellence Award (2021/2022) and PVCC Puma Praise Award for Excellence.
With extensive experience from owning a CPA firm specializing in small business consulting to involvement with Arizona Society of CPAs, Clark remains committed to fostering a supportive learning environment at PVCC where students thrive professionally.
