Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) has been recognized as one of the 471 colleges and universities acknowledged by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for its efforts to boost nonpartisan student voter participation in the 2024 election. This acknowledgment places PVCC among institutions at the forefront of promoting civic engagement and encouraging students to engage in democratic processes.
PVCC earned this recognition by completing several key actions, including participating in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, sharing campus voting data with ALL IN, developing a democratic engagement action plan for 2024, and maintaining a commitment to full student voter participation.
"PVCC’s inclusion on the ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting list demonstrates the strength of our students’ commitment to civic engagement," said Mike Ho, manager of Student Life. "Our goal is to provide students with resources and support they need to not only register and vote but to feel confident and informed throughout the process."
PVCC President Dr. Jana Schwartz commended faculty and staff, especially Mike Ho, for their dedication to voter engagement. "This recognition reflects PVCC’s unwavering dedication to fostering civic responsibility," she noted.
The college supports voter engagement through its Civic Engagement Hub which educates students on registration and participation. It also serves as an in-person voting center and ballot drop-off location for Arizona's General Assembly.
Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, highlighted that intentional efforts lead to higher voter registration rates. "These Most Engaged Campuses set the standard for civic engagement work nationwide," she stated.
Earlier this year, PVCC was awarded Best in Class for Most Improved Voting Rate at a Hispanic-Serving Institution during the 2022 midterms and received honors in Arizona's Campus Voting Challenge.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge involves over 10.8 million students from more than 1,075 institutions across all states. By encouraging nonpartisan civic learning and voter participation, it aims to institutionalize democratic engagement across campuses.
