Arizona State Sen. Shawnna Bolick said she hopes the impact of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump "turns down the notch of the left’s media propaganda machine" and turns to the focus to meaningful debate.
"Keith and other mainstream media liberal pundits throughout the day continue to incite their followers by using the “f” word on a regular basis," Bolick said in a post on X. "My own family has had death threats for years now. My husband and I both continue to answer the call to serve this great state of Arizona."
"Hopefully, yesterday’s assassination attempt on President Trump turns down the notch of the left’s media propaganda machine so we can focus on policy differences instead of emotion," she wrote.
An attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump was made at a Trump Rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13. Secret Service members moved Trump off the stage after shots were fired on him while speaking at the rally. A bullet grazed the former president’s ear, but he was otherwise unharmed.
A local Pennsylvania firefighter was killed in the audience, and two other audience members were critically wounded.
The shooter, 20 year old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed during the incident. FBI agents were able to identify him by tracing the rifle he used, which had been legally purchased by his father.
Trump was able to travel and arrived in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, which kicked off on Monday, July 15.
Bolick linked an interaction with Keith Olbermann, podcast host, on X in which he called her "a fascist seeking to overthrow voting and end democracy in this country" when she announced her campaign for Arizona Secretary of State in 2021.
Bolick has represented Arizona’s 2nd State Senate District since August 2023, when she was appointed by the Maricopa County Board of Advisors to fill the seat vacated by retiring State Sen. Steve Kaiser (R-Phoenix).
She previously represented District 20 in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023. Bolick also served on the Arizona State Board of Education’s Academic Standards Development Committee and was appointed to Arizona’s Early Childhood Education and Health Board by former Gov. Doug Ducey (R-Ariz.)
Bolick attended Syracuse University and received a master’s degree from American University.
A native of Pittsburgh, Penn., Bolick lives in Phoenix with her husband.
