Arizona State Rep. Justin Wilmeth (R-Phoenix) said the 2025 House Majority Plan released last week reflects the “will and mindset” of voters across Arizona.
"The Majority Plan developed for the 2025 Session accurately reflects the will and mindset of Arizonans from Yuma to Winslow and everywhere in between,” Wilmeth told PHX Reporter. “I've said for years now that Arizona isn't a blue state or a purple state, but a maroon state - somewhere between a purple state and red state.”
“The approach of this Majority Plan is pragmatic, reasonable and, going off the results of the last election, supports what Arizonans want for this grand state."
Newly-elected House Speaker Steve Montenegro (R-Goodyear) said the Majority Plan will serve as his caucus' guide in the current legislative session.
“Our Majority Plan focuses on preserving the American Dream, promoting public safety, and protecting individual rights and freedoms,” AZ House Speaker Steve Montenegro (R-Goodyear) told Grand Canyon Times. “House Republicans are addressing the priorities that matter most to Arizonans: cutting taxes, making housing more affordable, securing the southern border, and empowering parents to shape their children’s education.”
“With this plan as our guide, Republicans are committed to delivering real results that strengthen families, build safer communities, and ensure Arizona remains a land of opportunity and prosperity for generations to come,” said Montenegro.
The Majority Plan includes expanding resources for law enforcement and addressing challenges posed by cartels operating near the southern border.
The plan also includes measures to lower taxes and reduce government regulations.
Education reforms in the plan include expanding school choice and ensuring accountability in public schools. The plan says the GOP will empower parents to have more influence over their children’s education.
The plan also includes proposals to address homelessness and public safety.
In the 2024 elections, Republicans increased their majority in the Arizona House, holding 31 seats to the Democrats 29. Montenegro was sworn in as the new Speaker on Jan. 13, succeeding outgoing Speaker Ben Toma (R-Glendale).
A native of Odessa, Texas, Wilmeth was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives to represent District 15 in the general election on November 3, 2020. He assumed office on January 11, 2021, and after redistricting, began representing District 2 on January 9, 2023.
Wilmeth has a professional background in public policy and communications. He founded Firebrand Strategic Consulting, LLC, in 2017 and has worked as a policy advisor for the Arizona House of Representatives, a communications specialist for the Oklahoma House of Representatives, and deputy state director for Americans for Prosperity in Oklahoma. Wilmeth resides in the Deer Valley area of Phoenix.
