The Cardinals have taken steps to bolster their defensive line by bringing back veteran Calais Campbell. Campbell, who began his career with the Cardinals after being drafted in 2008, has signed a one-year deal to return to Arizona. The contract is valued at $5.5 million, with potential to rise to $7.5 million.

Campbell announced his return on Instagram by posting a picture from his rookie year. In the caption, he shared, "What a story it would be! Started my career with a bang. Now it's time to finish it with a bang back home where it first began!"

At the age of 39, Campbell's experience is notable. He started all 17 games for the Dolphins in 2024 and for the Falcons in 2023, missing only 15 games in his 17-year career. During his initial nine years in Arizona, Campbell achieved 56.5 sacks, 42 pass deflections, and eight forced fumbles across 138 games. His performance included three Pro Bowl selections and recognition as a second-team All-Pro twice.

Campbell left the Cardinals in 2017. During his tenures with Jacksonville and Baltimore, Campbell continued to excel, earning further Pro Bowl selections and amassing 54 more sacks. His 2024 season with the Dolphins showed he still had much to offer, contributing five sacks and 12 tackles for loss.

His return comes as part of the Cardinals' effort to strengthen their defensive line. Campbell will join forces with new acquisition Dalvin Tomlinson, along with fellow veterans Justin Jones, Bilal Nichols, L.J. Collier, and young talents Darius Robinson and Dante Stills.
