Banner Children’s Diamond Children’s Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona, in partnership with the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation, organized a prom night for over 100 teenage patients and their guests at the Arizona Sands Club. The event, dubbed Dunkin' Prom, is a part of a series of 19 such events across the United States, supporting the foundation's mission to bring joy to children and teens.
Teenagers unable to attend their school proms were treated to a special night themed "Night Under the Sea," featuring ocean-themed decorations and activities such as arcade games and sand art. Participants also enjoyed glam sessions by Gadabout Salon Spas and sweet treats provided by Dunkin’, with a special appearance from Dunkin’s mascot, Sprinkles.
"Teen patients face distinct challenges, and they often miss out on typical teenage experiences, such as prom," stated Hadley Trull, associate director of child life at Diamond Children’s. "This event was designed to acknowledge their need for celebration and normalcy, providing a space where they could enjoy a memorable prom experience, despite the unique circumstances they face."
The Diamond Children’s prom fund was established by the Banner Health Foundation to provide continued support for this event, inviting the Tucson community to contribute.
This year marks the sixth anniversary of the Dunkin' Prom events. "Experiencing prom is a milestone in the lives of many teens," explained Mollie Collum, director of the Joy in Childhood Foundation. "Our Dunkin' Prom signature program allows teen patients the opportunity to enjoy a night of laughter and fun—just for them. We are honored to partner with Diamond Children’s to bring this joyful prom experience to the teen patients in Tucson."
The Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation, since its inception in 2006, has contributed over $60 million to various charities, thanks to donations from franchisees, guests, vendors, and employees. Banner Children’s - Diamond Children’s Medical Center offers comprehensive pediatric care and is linked to the University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center, providing access to advanced research.
