The Phoenix Mercury have announced a significant acquisition involving All-WNBA First Team forwards Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas, veteran center Kalani Brown, and guard Sevgi Uzun. This move is part of a four-team trade that includes the Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings, and Indiana Fever.

As part of the trade deal, the Connecticut Sun will receive Rebecca Allen and Natasha Cloud from Phoenix, Jacy Sheldon from Dallas, and the 8th pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft from Indiana. The Dallas Wings will acquire rights to Kiki Herbert Harrigan and the 12th pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft from Phoenix, along with Dijonai Carrington, Tyasha Harris, and rights to a 2026 second-round pick swap from Connecticut. They will also receive NaLyssa Smith and rights to a 2027 third-round pick swap from Indiana. Meanwhile, Indiana will gain Sophie Cunningham and the 19th pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft from Phoenix as well as Jaelyn Brown from Dallas.

Satou Sabally was selected second overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft by Dallas. She has played five seasons with them, averaging career stats of 15.7 points per game among other notable achievements. Last season she averaged impressive numbers despite missing games due to injury.

Alyssa Thomas is recognized for her multiple accolades including being a five-time WNBA All-Star. Her performance last year with Connecticut included averages that placed her high on league leaderboards.

Kalani Brown contributed significantly during her time with Dallas last season while Sevgi Uzun had an impactful rookie season ranking high among rookies in assists per game.

Phoenix Mercury General Manager Nick U’Ren expressed enthusiasm about these new additions: “Satou is an exceptional talent... Teaming her with Kahleah and Alyssa will allow us to play dynamic basketball.” He also praised Alyssa Thomas as "one of the most complete players our league has ever seen."

U’Ren acknowledged departing players Rebecca Allen, Natasha Cloud, and Sophie Cunningham for their contributions: “We are so appreciative... they each made a big impact.”

The Mercury's upcoming season opener against Seattle Storm is scheduled for May 17 at home.
