The Cardinals have bolstered their roster by signing offensive lineman Royce Newman and cornerback Jaylon Jones. These additions come as the team wraps up the second week of free agency.
Royce Newman, who has signed a one-year contract, joins the Cardinals following a short period with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before that, he spent three seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Newman's ability to play both right and left guard positions adds versatility to the Cardinals' offensive line. His presence could be crucial if the team decides not to re-sign right guard Will Hernandez or rotational player Trystan Colon.
In addition to Newman, the Cardinals have secured cornerback Jaylon Jones on a one-year deal. This move reunites Jones with quarterback Kyler Murray; both were teammates at Allen High School in Texas. Previously with Chicago for three seasons, Jones has recorded five starts, four pass deflections, a forced fumble, and 85 tackles in his career.
The team's focus on strengthening its offensive line is evident as they reportedly reach an agreement with offensive lineman Jake Curhan. Meanwhile, Evan Brown has been re-signed after starting all 17 games at left guard last season. Isaiah Adams is also considered a candidate for the right guard position.
During his rookie year with Green Bay, Newman started 16 out of 17 games at right guard. As draft experts suggest that interior offensive line might be a target for the Cardinals in the upcoming draft's first round, these recent signings could prove pivotal for their strategy.
