Abrazo West Campus has introduced the da Vinci 5 surgical robot, marking a significant advancement in medical technology. The unveiling allowed the public to experience the capabilities of this state-of-the-art system. Equipped with four arms and enhanced computing power, the robot is transforming surgical practices.

Dr. Amir Esparza, a Colon and Rectal/Advanced Robotic Surgeon, highlighted the precision enabled by the new system: “The new da Vinci 5 robotic system has taken nearly a decade to develop and enables us to perform complex cases with exceptional precision.” He further explained that its force feedback technology allows surgeons to feel tissue tension, which is crucial for future autonomous surgeries.

A notable feature of da Vinci 5 is "the Hub," an AI-driven platform providing access to data from previous surgeries to aid decision-making. Dr. Esparza, who performed Arizona's first colorectal surgery using da Vinci 5, stated it reduces force on tissues by up to 43 percent, minimizing trauma and promoting faster recovery.

Hans Driessnack, CEO of Abrazo West Campus, emphasized their commitment: “The continued investment by Abrazo West in the most advanced robotic surgical platforms equips our surgeons with the best technology to help our patients.” The hospital has invested over $6.5 million in advanced technologies recently.

Da Vinci 5 boasts more than 150 enhancements including improved surgeon controllers and a high-quality 3D imaging system for better visualization during procedures.
