The Arizona Cardinals faced a tough loss against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, marking a shift in their recent performance. The 16-6 defeat at Lumen Field was notably different from their previous games, altering the dynamics within the NFC West.
Coach Jonathan Gannon commented, "Not our best game," highlighting the team's focus on treating each game's outcome without emotion. With this loss, both teams now stand at 6-5. The Cardinals had been leading but have now dropped to second place, with another matchup against the Seahawks scheduled in two weeks.
Quarterback Kyler Murray expressed his frustration: "A frustrating day to come out here and lay an egg." The Cardinals' offense struggled throughout, failing to reach 300 total yards for the first time since Week 4. This lack of offensive momentum spoiled what could have been a commendable defensive effort; they sacked Seattle's Geno Smith five times and restricted them to 285 yards.
Cornerback Garrett Williams noted the defense's potential despite acknowledging sloppy play: "It's a testament to how talented we are though to be as sloppy as we played and stay within 10 points."
The game’s turning point came when Murray attempted a play-action bootleg after a timeout by Seattle negated an incomplete pass attempt. His throw was intercepted by Coby Bryant who returned it for a touchdown. Murray acknowledged his mistake: "(Witherspoon) did a good job redirecting... Can't give them seven points."
Offensively, Trey Benson led with only 18 rushing yards as part of the team's overall low of 49 rushing yards. Michael Wilson mentioned difficulties in gaining momentum: "The flow of the game wasn't in our favor."
Despite constant pressure leading to five sacks on Murray, Gannon maintained perspective, stating, "'We're going to learn a lot from this game.'"
In standout performances, Garrett Williams had an interception while Zaven Collins contributed with one of five sacks. Offensively, McBride achieved career-highs with 12 catches for 133 receiving yards.
Gannon experienced his first challenge loss during his coaching tenure over Marvin Harrison Jr.'s end zone catch that was ruled incomplete.
