Phoenix Mercury's Kahleah Copper has been recognized as the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week for May 20-26. During this period, Copper played a crucial role in leading Phoenix to a 2-1 record, achieving an average of 29.7 points per game with a shooting accuracy of 53.2% and 48.0% from beyond the arc.

Copper's standout performance was evident during the Mercury’s victory over the two-time defending champion Aces on May 21 in Las Vegas, where she scored a career-high 38 points on 65.2% shooting, including five out of nine from three-point range. This achievement made her the first player in WNBA history to have consecutive games scoring more than 37 points, following her previous score of 37 against the Atlanta Dream on May 18.

In subsequent games, Copper contributed significantly with 20 points in Phoenix’s win over Atlanta on May 23 and added another impressive performance with 32 points against Dallas Wings on May 25. This accolade marks Copper’s second career Player of the Week honor; her first was in 2022 while playing for Chicago Sky.

Throughout five games this season, Copper is averaging a league-high and personal best of 29.2 points per game, along with career highs in shooting percentages—50.5% from the field and 48.6% from three-point range—alongside averages of four rebounds, 2.4 assists, and one steal per game. Her total of 146 points through these initial games ranks third in WNBA history behind Maya Moore (149 in 2014) and Elena Delle Donne (148 in 2015). She joins Moore as one of only two players to average at least 29 points while maintaining over a .530 field goal percentage and .480 three-point percentage within their first five games.

The Mercury team currently holds a record of three wins and two losses as they prepare to face off against Connecticut Sun tonight at the start of their three-game road trip before returning home to play Los Angeles Sparks at Footprint Center on June 2.
