Banner Health appoints Mark Garvin as senior VP for partnerships

Mark Garvin has joined Banner Health as the senior vice president for partnership and new venture development. In this position, he will lead enterprise growth by identifying and closing new partnerships and ventures. His responsibilities include overseeing market and service growth, developing health system business, mergers and acquisitions, diversified services, joint ventures, managing relationships, and integration.

He brings deep expertise and great success in mergers, acquisitions and partnerships, along with a keen eye for identifying growth opportunities in the multi-state, multi-site health care sector,” said Scott Nordlund, EVP, chief strategy and growth officer for Banner Health. “As Banner continues to grow and evolve, Mark’s ability to navigate the changing landscape and build and diversify revenue channels will be an enormous asset.”

Garvin previously served as chief operating officer of United Surgical Partners International. During his tenure there, he helped advance the organization from a start-up to the nation’s largest developer, owner, and operator of short-stay ambulatory surgery centers and hospitals.

With over 30 years of leadership experience, Garvin has held roles such as chief operating officer at United States Anesthesia Partners and PetVet Care Centers. He was also an executive in residence at Avanza Healthcare Strategies and Principal at The Garvin Group LLC.

Additionally, Garvin has served as an independent board director for Prospira PainCare. He continues to contribute to Pryor Health as an independent board member.

Garvin holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. He began his role at Banner on September 9.

Banner Health is one of the largest secular nonprofit healthcare systems in the country. It operates 33 hospitals along with an academic medicine division called Banner – University Medicine. The organization also includes Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center through a partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center. Other services provided by Banner include a health insurance division, employed physician groups, outpatient surgery centers, urgent care locations, home care and hospice services, retail pharmacies, stand-alone imaging centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, behavioral health services, a research division, and a nursing registry. All doctors employed by Banner are available for virtual visits. Patients can reserve spots at urgent care locations or book appointments online with many doctors employed by Banner. Headquartered in Arizona, Banner Health also has locations in California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming.
