The training camp schedule for the Cardinals has been adjusted this year in Jonathan Gannon's second season. The team had their initial Saturday off and held their Back Together Weekend festivities on Sunday, a day later than most teams, with season ticket holders in attendance.
Gannon, with input from players, doctors, strength coaches, and others, has adopted a cadence of three days on and one day off. The team practiced on Sunday and will continue on Monday and Tuesday before taking Wednesday off. The Red and White practice on Saturday will conclude the next three-day stretch.
"I hope it's the best thing for the players' health, development, and the evaluation part of it," Gannon said.
The new schedule eliminates the previously popular veteran's days off that were a staple in past camps. According to Gannon, "Every player is different and we will cross our bridge when we need to. But the schedule is set up so that the guys who you would think (would be the vets), if you ask them do you need a day off, they'd tell me no."
Sunday also marked the end of the ramp-up period as the Cardinals prepared to put pads on for Monday's practice.
Highlights from Sunday's low-tempo practice included outside linebacker Jesse Luketa making a leaping one-handed interception during drills and tight end Trey McBride catching a Kyler Murray throw in the back of the end zone.
The Cardinals remain healthy overall; however, second-year offensive lineman Jon Gaines remains "less limited but a little limited," according to Gannon. Gaines worked at center and saw snaps at left guard next to Paris Johnson Jr.
