Gov. Doug Ducey (R-Ariz.) expressed support for Ukraine while visiting members of the Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA).
They sent 9,000 pounds of equipment and supplies to the people of Ukraine, according to a press release from the governor’s office.
“Great to see local, county, state, and tribal law enforcement agencies come together to donate surplus vests and armor to the people of Ukraine,” Ducey said in a late March Twitter post. “Everyday citizens are risking their lives, fighting for their freedom, and deserve all the assistance we can give them.”
The supplies were donated by 11 local, county, and state law enforcement agencies. The shipment included 874 bulletproof vests and 77 helmets, plus various tactical clothing, footwear, pads, and shields. The 17 pallets of supplies were transported by the Ukrainian Relief Group.
“These surplus bulletproof vests and armor will help as they defend their country from Vladimir Putin,” Ducey said in the press release.
“Our team coordinated with county and tribal emergency managers to collect law enforcement donations,” Allen Clark, director of the Division of Emergency Management in the Arizona DEMA, said in the press release. “The emergency response community is proud to support Ukraine.”
Ducey called the Russian invasion of Ukraine an “attack on humanity” in the press release and vowed to support freedom fighters.
“The men and women of Ukraine are putting up an incredible fight — from Pres. Zelensky to everyday citizens,” Ducey said. “They deserve all the support we can give them.”
