Arizona State Representative Jeff Weninger has introduced legislation aimed at modernizing Chase Field without imposing new taxes on Arizona residents. The bill, known as HB2704, proposes a dedicated funding source to maintain the stadium and keep it up to date with modern amenities.

With the Arizona Diamondbacks' lease at Chase Field expiring in 2027, there is a need for a long-term solution to ensure the team remains in its current location. The proposed funding would address necessary repairs and updates to critical infrastructure like plumbing and electrical systems.

"The Arizona Diamondbacks are an indispensable part of our state’s identity and economy," said Representative Jeff Weninger. "I’m proud to sponsor HB2704, which provides a dedicated funding solution to renovate Chase Field and ensure the Diamondbacks remain right here in Arizona where they belong."

The legislation is modeled after the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority's approach, which funds State Farm Stadium. It plans to recapture sales and income taxes associated with Chase Field and the Diamondbacks, directing them into a fund for stadium maintenance. Notably, it excludes car rental surcharges, hotel bed taxes, or facility use fees found in other models. The Diamondbacks also plan to contribute significantly toward repair costs.
