Sen. Michelle Ugenti-Rita (R-AZ) has urged Gov. Doug Ducey to lift COVID-19 restrictions in the state.

Several state leaders including Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds have loosened their coronavirus restrictions. Reynolds is no longer requiring Iowans to wear masks while inside public buildings and has canceled limits on both indoor and outdoor gatherings.

Retweeting an article from Fox News regarding Reynolds lifting mask requirements and other prohibitions, Ugenti-Rita called on Ducey to “open Arizona.”

“Arizonans are not asking you to be a trailblazer. This is happening. Only question is when will you join other Republican states in lifting economic, educational, and freedom-killing restrictions,” Ugenti said.

Ducey has issued the emergency declaration last March and has implemented a number of executive orders in response to COVID-19.

Ugenti-Rita who has previously said that Ducey’s restrictions have caused economic problems, has sponsored a resolution to end the public health emergency.

On Feb. 8, Arizona has reported 2250 new cases.

The governor has recently announced that the state has already administered 920,000 COVID vaccine doses.
