The Arizona Cardinals have strengthened their offensive line with the signing of veteran guard Jake Curhan to a one-year contract. The deal was finalized and confirmed on Thursday, marking a step in the team's strategic moves during the free agency period.
The signing adds depth to the Cardinals’ guard positions, which already saw the inclusion of Royce Newman a couple of weeks ago along with the re-signing of veteran tackle Kelvin Beachum. The team has also renewed its contract with starting left guard Evan Brown.
Coach Jonathan Gannon expressed optimism about the roster's flexibility. "I'm excited for that (guard) room," said Gannon during the NFL owners meetings. "I like that we have guys that can play both sides."
Curhan brings experience with 11 starts in 39 career games over four seasons. Last season, he spent time with the Bears after a three-year stint with the Seahawks. While playing mostly at left guard with 239 of his 260 snaps in 2024, he has proven his versatility with previous experience at right tackle and right guard.
As the NFL draft approaches, the Cardinals may still consider selecting an offensive lineman with their first-round pick. Meanwhile, the right guard position will see competition between Isaiah Adams and Royce Newman, with Jon Gaines in contention as he recovers from a knee injury in 2023.
