Erin Kienlen, a nurse at Banner Health, has found her calling in helping patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), a condition she was diagnosed with while in college. Despite initially aspiring to be a doctor, Erin's path changed after experiencing symptoms like stabbing pain and numbness. A supportive nurse during her diagnosis inspired her to pursue nursing instead.

Erin now works as a nurse patient navigator for MS patients at Banner Health, offering guidance and emotional support. Phoenix resident Joey Persinger, who was diagnosed with MS in 2022 after years of undiagnosed symptoms, describes Erin as a role model. "Erin is my role model for living with MS," Joey said. She appreciates Erin's ability to perform her job with "grace and smarts and humor."

Dr. Barry Hendin, a neurologist specializing in MS at Banner Health, estimates that around 1 million people in the United States suffer from this autoimmune disorder. He notes that symptoms can vary widely but may include rapid loss of vision, weakness, or double vision.

Joey finds comfort in Erin's support during office visits. "It is Erin who makes the office visits feel personal," Joey says. "I always feel that she is 100% on my side."

Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix is part of Banner Health, which operates 33 hospitals across six states.
