Cancer patients at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center's Home Away from Home community now have a new facility designed to provide comfort and support. The recently constructed wellness center aims to offer patients, caregivers, and their families a place to connect and heal together. This addition complements the existing eight private homes built by Taylor Morrison, donated to the Banner Health Foundation in June 2024.

The wellness center spans 2,000 square feet and includes amenities such as a kitchen, family corner with arts and crafts, books and games, a Lego botanical mural, a ribbon wall, and a Zen room for relaxation. Dr. Matthew Callister of Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center remarked on its significance: “A cancer diagnosis affects every aspect of a patient’s life – and we know true healing from that diagnosis extends beyond medical treatment.”

Taylor Morrison partnered with hundreds of local volunteers for the construction featured in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's season finale. The community eliminates travel expenses for about 80 patients annually. Sheryl Palmer, CEO of Taylor Morrison stated: “The wellness center represents what’s so core to the healing process, which is the strength that a true community can give to patients.”

For many patients requiring extended treatments or monitoring post-surgery, finding affordable lodging is challenging. The Home Away from Home program offers housing solutions through partnerships with local hotels for qualifying patients. Andy Petersen of the Banner Health Foundation emphasized the importance of this initiative: "A home is more than four walls—it’s a place of healing, comfort, and support."

The entire program relies on charitable donations. To contribute, interested parties are encouraged to visit relevant websites.
