The University of Phoenix has announced the appointment of Hal D. Morgan, MBA, as Vice Chair for the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Task Team on artificial intelligence (AI). Morgan, who is a senior director of Accreditation and Online Education at the university, will serve in this role for one year. He is also a member of the ACBSP baccalaureate and graduate degree Board of Commissioners.
Morgan's responsibilities will include assisting the Task Team in researching AI's impact on higher education and accreditation. This involves examining its effects on teaching, institutional administration, ethical implications, and identifying ways to address AI risks. "It’s an honor to be selected by the Board to serve as Vice Chair of the Task Team on AI," said Morgan. He emphasized the importance of incorporating AI thoughtfully into higher education to enhance institutional effectiveness and student success outcomes.
A survey conducted by University of Phoenix and The Harris Poll found that 59% of U.S. adults believe AI tools should be used in workplace settings, while 57% support their use in classrooms. Another global survey from the Digital Education Council revealed that 61% of faculty are already using AI in classrooms, with 86% planning to do so in the future.
Jeffrey Alderman, ACBSP President & CEO, highlighted Morgan's contribution: “Hal Morgan brings a wealth of knowledge and deep understanding... his leadership will be vital to our findings." ACBSP accredits business educational programs globally across all levels from associate to doctoral degrees.
Morgan has over 30 years of experience in higher education, accreditation, distance education, business school administration, and teaching. At University of Phoenix, he oversees various accreditation processes including institutional accreditation and online education quality assurance. His roles have included serving as an ACBSP Evaluator and Mentor among others.
