Jonathan Gannon, head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, has expressed unwavering confidence in both his quarterback Kyler Murray and offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. Following the conclusion of the Cardinals' season with a victory over the 49ers, finishing with an 8-9 record, Gannon reiterated his belief in Murray's potential.
"He's a top-level, franchise quarterback," Gannon stated, adding that he believes Murray has yet to reach his full potential. On Arizona Sports, Gannon confirmed that Murray will "100 percent" remain the team's quarterback for the 2025 season.
Drew Petzing is expected to continue as the offensive coordinator calling plays for Murray. Despite reports that the Chicago Bears have shown interest in interviewing Petzing for a head coaching position, Gannon remains optimistic about retaining him. "I'm excited for Drew," said Gannon. "The people that know, know."
Gannon praised Petzing's abilities: "He knows how to teach, he's got really good command, he can get the best out of people, he's extremely intelligent." He acknowledged Petzing's experience and growth mindset as key attributes.
While Gannon is considering potential replacements for any departing staff members, he hopes Petzing stays due to his fit with Murray's playing style. "It's tailor fit for him," Gannon remarked about their offensive strategy.
Discussing playoff teams and their quarterbacks, Gannon emphasized team support around Murray: "You list the playoff teams and the quarterbacks of the playoff teams... It's good teams. We have to do everything we can to support him and put a good team around him."
