Darius Robinson is not the only rookie defender who might return to assist the Cardinals this season. The team has announced that third-round cornerback Elijah Jones has been designated to return from Injured Reserve, initiating his 21-day practice window.
Jones sustained a heel injury during the preseason finale in Denver and was placed on IR on August 29. He must be activated to the 53-man roster by December 26 or remain on IR for the rest of the season, though he can be added to the roster at any time before that deadline.
"(I've learned) to flow with the ebbs and flows," Jones stated. "Throughout the whole time I've tried to stay locked in even though you can feel a little disconnected and tried to stick to the gameplan and support your teammates, whether that was on the sideline or at practice."
The Cardinals have five regular-season games left: hosting the Seahawks and Patriots, traveling to face the Panthers and Rams, and then concluding with a home game against the 49ers. The matches against Rams and 49ers occur after December 26.
Jones was one of four third-round picks for the Cardinals this year, being selected as number 90 overall. Other selections included running back Trey Benson, guard Isaiah Adams, and tight end Tip Reiman.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 184 pounds, Jones is recognized as a long defensive back. His preparation style draws comparisons to fellow cornerback Garrett Williams, also chosen in the third round.
