Grand Canyon University (GCU) athletes participated in two separate track and field events over the weekend. A select group competed in the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, California, while a larger team of more than 60 athletes took part in the Glendale Invitational.
Senior Casey Tow was a standout performer, climbing into the NCAA qualifying ranks for the decathlon with a score of 7,451, placing him 17th nationally. This performance brings him close to his personal best from last year, and he remains among the top 24 in the nation who will progress to the NCAA Championships. Tow set personal records in the 100-meter dash and 400 meters, and his performances in several other events placed him in strong positions.
Alongside Tow, sophomore Blayk Kelton and senior Justice Fair competed in the decathlon, with Kelton setting personal bests in three events. In the heptathlon, Camdyn Bruner and Maliyah Ross achieved personal records in individual events.
At the Glendale Invitational, freshman Luca Cannizzo excelled in the 400 meters with a time of 48.06, placing him sixth in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Other notable performances included the top-five placements in the men's 800 meters, led by Germain Lemaitre and Matt Hamilton.
Senior Grant Hagaman impressed in the pole vault with a 5.11-meter clearance, ranking him third in the WAC, while Praise Jibunor and Jackson Smith shared third place in the high jump, clearing 2.03 meters.
In the hammer throw, Jamel Shaw and Ryan Norton secured spots in the top 10 among WAC competitors. Macie Evans blazed through the 400-meter hurdles with a leading meet time, and Jade Williams took second place.
GCU athletes will next compete at the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, California, from Wednesday through Saturday.
