The journey of Dante Stills, a defensive lineman for the Arizona Cardinals, mirrors that of many draft picks each April. Stills, who was selected in the sixth round in 2023, recalls the uncertainty of draft day vividly. "I remember that day like it was yesterday," he said. "I was getting a little worried. I'm just happy they took a chance on me because I knew what type of player I was."

While not yet a star, Stills has shown his value to the Cardinals. Earlier this season, when the team had more depth on the defensive line, he was occasionally left out as a healthy scratch. However, his performances have proven his worth and earned him a regular spot in the rotation.

Stills exemplifies what teams hope to gain from later-round draft picks. He recorded a sack in Seattle and currently leads the team with 4.5 sacks this season. Despite lacking individual recognition beyond players like Budda Baker, the unit has performed well collectively.

Stills' family background is rich with NFL experience—his father, uncle, and cousin all played professionally—which may contribute to his upward trajectory. Reflecting on his progress, Stills commented, "I always see the things I do wrong," but acknowledged improvements in his game.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon emphasized the importance of contributions from all acquisitions regardless of their draft position or status as free agents. "Every acquisition piece is critical," Gannon stated. He highlighted how crucial it is for these players to excel in their roles and strive towards reaching their potential.

Gannon praised Stills' consistency and noted improvements in his technique and explosiveness on the field. "He's punching people first now," Gannon observed, indicating Stills' development into an effective player.

Despite making strides, Stills remains focused on addressing areas for improvement within his game. He expressed frustration over missed opportunities to increase pressure on opposing quarterbacks and aims to prove that he deserved a higher draft selection.

"I'm a work in progress," Stills admitted candidly.
