Standing on the sidelines, Jonah Williams of the Cardinals offensive line is eager to return after a knee injury sidelined him in the season opener against the Bills. For 22 snaps, Williams showcased his potential before his injury. Now, he focuses on rehabilitation and hopes to play against the Seahawks, although his status remains questionable until game day.
"My thing is I have to go be the best rehabber that I can possibly be today," Williams stated. He added that while watching from the sidelines isn't as enjoyable as playing, he's been impressed with how his teammates have performed in his absence.
Kelvin Beachum has filled in effectively for Williams at right tackle. According to Next Gen Stats, Beachum has allowed the lowest pressure rate among right tackles with at least 150 pass blocks. "I'm proud of the guys for how they've been playing," said Williams. "I like to think I can elevate the group, but they're doing a great job either way."
Running back James Conner expressed confidence regardless of who is in the huddle but welcomed Williams' return. Conner has previously succeeded against the Seahawks, rushing for 150 yards and scoring a touchdown last season. However, he acknowledged that past performances won't help him now: "No plays I've made before can help me in this game."
The Cardinals rank fifth in rushing yards per game and second in rushing yards per play, largely due to Conner and his blockers upfront. The decision whether to reinstate Williams or continue with Beachum looms as coach Jonathan Gannon weighs options: "We weigh all the variables and then decide what we think is best for the team for that game."
Communication along the offensive line will be crucial at Lumen Field, known for its loud crowd causing pre-snap disruptions. Despite these challenges, Williams remains enthusiastic about returning: "I'm excited to go practice now, but games are always another step up."
