Trey Benson, a rookie running back for the Arizona Cardinals, has started to see improvements in his game as it begins to slow down for him. His first NFL touchdown against the Bears marked the beginning of this transition. The following week against the Jets, Benson led the Cardinals with 62 rushing yards on 10 carries and added two receptions for 25 yards.

Benson attributes his progress to consistent practice and guidance from veteran teammate James Conner. "I knew it was going to come," Benson stated. "I just come to work, executing every day, and practice how you play."

Conner has been instrumental in Benson's development. As Conner approaches the end of his contract at nearly 30 years old, he continues to perform at a high level, contributing significantly alongside Benson in the Cardinals' backfield.

Benson averaged 5.2 yards after contact against the Jets, showcasing one of the offense's key traits: gaining yards after initial hits. Tight end Trey McBride also highlighted this ability during a pivotal play where he broke free from defenders.

"I feel like it's demoralizing for a defense," McBride commented on Benson's performance. "Trey's really figured it out... I thought this game was remarkable with how many blocks he shed off."

Benson credits Conner as a source of inspiration and learning: "I'm feeding off J.C., honestly." Conner reciprocates by acknowledging their mutual learning process: "I'm teaching him and he's teaching me."

Coach Jonathan Gannon emphasizes continuous growth as vital to success: "I think it's important to have a growth mindset all the time." This philosophy aligns with the team's current standing at first place in the NFC West.

Conner is optimistic about Benson's future contributions: "He's so gifted... He's a special player. It's been awesome to watch."
