The Cardinals recently arrived in Denver for their preseason finale against the Broncos on Sunday. However, it was a player who won't have a chance to play that made the news.
Ian Rapoport tweeted on Saturday that Darius Robinson's calf injury showed a strain after tests, which Rapoport described as a "multi-week" issue. This is considered relatively good news since some calf injuries could potentially end a season. The exact duration of Robinson's absence remains unknown; coach Jonathan Gannon is scheduled to meet with the media again on Sunday after the game and then again Monday morning.
The Cardinals might benefit from a rule change allowing up to two players to be placed on Injured Reserve (IR) before finalizing the 53-man roster and still return during the season. Previously, if a team wanted to bring back a player from IR who was injured in preseason, they had to use one of their 53-man spots initially and only move him over after the first round of cuts.
If Robinson remains on the 53-man roster Tuesday without being placed on IR, it would indicate he has a good chance of returning within the first month of the season. If he is placed on IR, the earliest he could return would be after the fourth game of the year.
The Cardinals will open the regular season in Buffalo, followed by three consecutive home games against the Rams, Lions, and Commanders.
