The Phoenix Mercury will host a reunion of its 2014 championship team on Friday, September 13, when the team faces the Connecticut Sun at 7:00 p.m. at Footprint Center. The event coincides with Women’s Empowerment Night, sponsored by CarMax.
The Mercury will commemorate the 10-year anniversary of their third championship with a special postgame celebration. Key figures from the 2014 team, including Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner, will be joined by former teammates Penny Taylor, Sandy Brondello, and DeWanna Bonner.
During the 2014 season, the Mercury achieved a 29-5 record and a 16-game win streak. They led the league in both offensive and defensive ratings. Players Griner, Taurasi, and Candice Dupree were named All-Stars that year, with Griner also earning Defensive Player of the Year honors.
In the postseason, Phoenix finished with a 7-1 record and outscored their opponents by a WNBA playoff-record margin of 110 points. They swept the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Finals, with Taurasi securing her second career Finals MVP award.
The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative ticket and the first 7,000 fans will receive a rally towel courtesy of CarMax. Tickets for the game are available at phoenixmercury.com/single-game-tickets.
