Before Wednesday night's joint practice with the Colts, Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon emphasized his expectations for the offense: "execution, technique, do what you're coached to do."

Gannon spent most of his time during the workout observing his offense, while the defense and the Colts' offense practiced on an adjacent field. The competition for the backup quarterback position remains significant, especially since Kyler Murray will not participate in preseason games. These joint practices are crucial for Murray's game preparation.

The performance of Murray and the offense against the Colts yielded mixed results. For much of the practice, Murray displayed good form and strong chemistry with wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, and Greg Dortch. However, during the final 11-on-11 session with first-team players, there were several errors including penalties, a fumbled snap, and a sack. The last play for the second team ended with a Clayton Tune interception.

This practice was somewhat reminiscent of last year's initial joint practice in Minnesota where the Cardinals showed improvement on the second day.

In other observations:

- During the final plays for the Cardinals' defense, the Colts' first unit advanced easily, ending with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Richardson to Michael Pittman Jr. over Sean Murphy-Bunting.

- Tight end Trey McBride continued to impress with his reliable hands.

- Kyler Murray engaged with fans after practice for autographs.

- Edgerrin James, former Cardinals running back and Hall of Famer, attended in Colts gear and greeted old acquaintances.

- Despite Gannon's assurance of no fights, physical plays occurred mainly on special teams.

- Returning to practice were RB Emari Demercado, CB Garrett Williams, CB Max Melton, and DL Justin Jones.

- Undrafted rookie Xavier Weaver made another notable catch during 7-on-7 drills from Desmond Ridder.

- Inside linebacker Owen Pappoe intercepted a pass from Colts backup QB Joe Flacco and returned it for a touchdown.

"It was cool, man," Pappoe remarked. "Tried to bait him a little bit; didn't even see me coming. Had a really good break and took it to the crib."

Additionally, Marvin Harrison Jr. mentioned that there is no update on when his jersey would be available for public purchase due to an ongoing dispute between him and Fanatics.
