On the game's first play from scrimmage, Darius Robinson made a tackle and soon after drew a holding penalty. It was an encouraging start for the Cardinals' first-round pick, who has shown high performance since training camp began. With veterans sitting out Saturday's preseason opener, many young players received extensive playing time.

Safety Rabbit Taylor-Demerson played into the third quarter, demonstrating both his hitting potential and speed. During one play in the first half, Taylor-Demerson swiftly tackled Saints tight end Dallin Holker. Second-year inside linebacker Owen Pappoe also showcased his speed.

"I like Rabbit, man," Pappoe said with a grin. "The future of this defense is bright."

Coach Jonathan Gannon acknowledged that there are lessons to be learned from the preseason game. He took responsibility for a 58-yard pass before halftime due to a communication issue but noted rookie cornerback Elijah Jones's coverage effort. Rookie guard Isaiah Adams experienced mixed results.

Starling Thomas V continues to make strides as a cornerback, while rookie Xavier Thomas earned praise from Gannon for his high motor and effort.

There are still two preseason games left and important practices against the Colts that will be crucial for evaluations. The quarterback battle behind Kyler Murray remains intriguing; Desmond Ridder struggled more than Clayton Tune but faced better opponents as the starter. This situation is expected to reverse next week.

Gannon pointed out that Ridder didn't receive much support from the starting offensive line, which struggled during the game. Ridder missed a potential touchdown connection with Andre Baccellia on fourth down, which could have significantly altered both the scoreboard and analysis.

Rookie running back Trey Benson gained 21 yards on eight carries in his first NFL game experience. "Even people on the other team," Benson remarked about seeing well-known players like Tyrann Mathieu on the field.

Running back Michael Carter performed well with an average of 5.9 yards per carry and a touchdown, while DeeJay Dallas appears to be a key special teams player. Emari Demercado did not play due to a minor shoulder issue; decisions remain regarding how many running backs will be retained.

Gannon reported no injuries following the game. The team departs for Indianapolis on Tuesday for joint practices with the Colts.
