The Cardinals received encouraging news regarding starting center Hjalte Froholdt. Although he was not practicing on Thursday when the team returned to the field, Coach Jonathan Gannon's optimism and the fact that Froholdt walked off the field on his own Tuesday suggest a prompt return.

"Couple guys got some nicks and bumps and bruises, but nobody is serious," Gannon said. "So we'll get those guys back out there when they are ready to go."

Froholdt is day-to-day, according to Gannon, after being rolled up on from behind during a play.

Gannon did not mention anyone besides Froholdt by name. However, wide receiver Zay Jones, defensive lineman Justin Jones, and cornerback Kei'Trel Clark were also absent from practice on Thursday. Safety Budda Baker was present but not dressed out and was playing the role of coach.

Marvin Harrison Jr. expressed his approval of NFL training camps, describing this camp as "less taxing" than his college experience. He appreciates Gannon's three-days-on-one-day-off schedule.

Thursday's practice was a "low" day with sparse highlights as the defense focused on positioning rather than breaking up passes.

Desmond Ridder and Clayton Tune are competing for the backup quarterback role, with Tune receiving a significant portion of second-unit snaps so far.

Including Evan Brown, who moved to center in Froholdt's absence after initially playing left guard, four different players have been tried at first-unit left guard: Brown, rookie Isaiah Adams, Jon Gaines II, and last year's original starter Elijah Wilkinson.

Preseason games will be crucial tests, but it appears that second-round pick Max Melton will have opportunities for significant playing time or even a starting position. The current top four cornerbacks seem to be Garrett Williams, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Melton, and Starling Thomas V.
