Jonathan Gannon understands that mistakes will be made at practice. In the end, that's the whole point -- it's practice. But the leash isn't infinite.

The Cardinals coach noted a moment where a player -- presumably on offense, since Gannon said OC Drew Petzing would be someone to talk to about the issue -- made a mistake on Wednesday and then made the same mistake on Thursday. "That's not going to fly," Gannon said.

"I understand you're going to make mistakes, but when you are in that same situation and the same play or the same call on defense, you've got to see it corrected," Gannon said. "Not that it never happens, because it does, but that's what you're looking for: OK, you made a mistake, we corrected it, we took you through it, yada yada yada, now go execute it the right way because it shows me you're getting better."

Gannon mentioned that discussions are ongoing regarding how much Kyler Murray will play in the preseason opener on August 10 against the Saints. Murray's playing time in the preseason is anticipated with interest; he was unavailable last preseason (and QB1 Colt McCoy did not make it to the regular-season roster).

Gannon also addressed an incident involving Will Hernandez and Mack Wilson Sr., noting that everything was ironed out after Thursday's near-scuffle.

During Friday's practice, defensive players appeared dominant early on. Safety Budda Baker nearly secured an interception and definitely had a pass breakup when he knocked down a Kyler Murray throw intended for Chris Moore. Additionally, rookie edge Xavier Thomas applied significant pressure on QB Desmond Ridder during an 11-on-11 play, forcing a quick throw which was deflected and resulted in linebacker Jesse Luketa making a diving interception.

Offensive highlights were also present. Ridder executed a well-placed touch throw downfield to rookie Xavier Weaver who caught it despite tight coverage from Kei'Trel Clark. Later, Kyler Murray completed an impressive back-shoulder throw downfield to Zay Jones who made an excellent catch.

In other notes from camp: Christian Jones is currently working at left tackle behind Paris Johnson Jr. and Kelvin Beachum. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson has shown potential as safety with his notable physicality.

The Cardinals' next practice session is scheduled for Sunday and will be open exclusively to season ticket members. The following public practice is set for Monday with free tickets required for entry.
