ESPN recently polled its contributors to compile a list of the greatest athletes since the year 2000. The list, which spans a global array of sports and covers achievements over the past 25 years, inevitably left out some notable names.

One omission that has sparked debate is Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald entered the NFL in 2004 and is currently second all-time in receptions and yards, as well as sixth in touchdowns. Despite these impressive statistics, he did not make ESPN's top 100 list.

"I'm not trying to say Fitz should be top 20," an observer noted. "There are some amazing athletes out there across a range of sports, many of which came out with championships that sadly, Fitzgerald did not."

The exclusion has generated discussion, particularly when comparing Fitzgerald to other athletes who made the list. Names like Adrian Beltre, Jason Kidd, Calvin Johnson—who also put up significant numbers without winning major titles—and Chris Paul were mentioned in comparison.

"It's all subjective," the observer continued. "But those of us who watched Fitz up close and personal for all those years sure could make an argument he should have been one of 100."

Fitzgerald's career highlights include scoring a game-winning touchdown against the Packers in the 2015 playoffs.
