Each year, as the offseason work concludes and before taking some time off, predictions are made regarding the starting lineup for the first game of the regular season. This year's initial game is scheduled for September 8 in Buffalo. The focus today is on the defense, which has seen noticeable improvements. Head Coach Jonathan Gannon and Defensive Coordinator Nick Rallis hope these changes will significantly enhance production.

Defensive end Justin Jones, one of the Cardinals' significant free-agent signings, brings experience and a fitting mentality to lead younger players. "You've got to be a mean SOB," he stated.

At nose tackle, Roy Lopez stands out despite competition from Khyiris Tonga. Lopez impressed coaches last season and has recovered from injuries that disrupted his previous seasons.

Bilal Nichols joins Jones at defensive end, bringing his own experience and a similar determined attitude to revamp the defensive line.

Outside linebacker Zaven Collins did not have his option picked up by the team but remains highly regarded for his versatility. "Is he going to get 10 sacks? Maybe not," noted Rallis, emphasizing Collins' multifaceted skills.

Inside linebacker Kyzir White set an early tone last season before being sidelined by injury. He will pair with Mack Wilson Sr., who is expected to have more opportunities in Arizona's versatile defense.

Garrett Williams is predicted to start at nickel cornerback if the Bills deploy three wideouts initially. Williams has fully recovered from an ACL injury and aims to make significant strides this season.

Sean Murphy-Bunting is slated as a starting cornerback due to his experience and leadership qualities, including a Super Bowl title under his belt.

Max Melton faces competition at cornerback but was a second-round pick with high expectations for early impact.

Safeties Jalen Thompson and Budda Baker remain key components of the defense. Baker's role continues despite any contract issues, providing stability alongside Thompson amid a youthful defensive lineup.
