Local U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) voted against a resolution, signed into law today by President Joe Biden (D), which "terminates the national emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic."
Stanton and Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D) were the only two members of Arizona's congressional delegation to oppose the resolution.
The resolution was sponsored by U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) who said the legislation would “end the more than 120 presidential authorities provided under the emergency declaration and safeguard our country from any further abuses by Mr. Biden."
The resolution passed the U.S. Senate on March 29, 2023 on a vote of 68-23. It passed the U.S. House on February 1, 2023 on a vote of 229-197.
Arizona Reps. Biggs, Lesko, Ciscomani, and Crane, all Republicans, were co-sponsors of the resolution.
U.S. Sens. Mark Kelly (D) and Kristen Sinema (I) both voted in in favor of the resolution.
