Arizona GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward encouraged the public to communicate with state and federal representatives to guarantee that election laws are clear, comprehensive, and transparent.
So “that the courts will have little to do with any election outcome,” she said in a video posted on Twitter.
Referring to a recent decision of the U.S. Supreme Court not to hear cases “that would have brought clarity to the question of when election procedures can be changed and by whom,” Ward said.
The justices did not identify any reason for rejecting the case but one “dissented,” according to the Republican chairwoman.
She quoted Justice Clarence Thomas who said “that decision to rewrite the rules seems to have affected too few ballots to change the outcome of any federal election. But that may not be the case in the future,” Thomas wrote. “These cases provide us with an ideal opportunity to address just what authority non-legislative officials have to set election rules, and to do so well before the next election cycle. The refusal to do so is inexplicable.”
Ward said that “to claim that those questions are moot because they won’t change the outcome of the federal election is a gross miscarriage of justice.”
Ward argued that leaving such questions “unanswered for the American people is not the way to bring our country together.”
