U.S Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) opposes the termination of the emergency declaration at the U.S.-Mexico border, saying that President Joe Biden is not keeping Americans safe.
Biggs wrote on Twitter that “Biden does not believe a porous border is a national emergency. He is not taking the required actions to protect Americans’ security and our nation’s sovereignty. His policies are making us less safe.”
Biden recently informed Congress that he has rescinded the national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border and has stopped the diversion of more federal funds for constructing a wall along the borderline.
The national emergency over the U.S.-Mexico border was first declared by former President Trump in Feb. 2019.
In a statement from the White House, Biden said he has “determined that the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border in Proclamation 9844 of February 15, 2019 (Declaring a National Emergency Concerning the Southern Border of the United States), was unwarranted.”
“It shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall.,” the proclamation further stated. “I am also directing a careful review of all resources appropriated or redirected to construct a southern border wall.”
