The City of Phoenix has promoted the director of Parks and Recreation Department to a deputy city manager position overseeing Human Services, Housing and Neighborhood Services, as well as Parks and Recreation.
Inger Erickson has worked in some way for the city since becoming a lifeguard at Coronado Park pool in 1988, according to a press release on the city's website.
Appointed as director for Parks and Recreation in 2015, Erickson handled an annual operating budget of $117 million and a capital operating budget of $168 million while running her 2,000-employee department.
“I'm grateful for this new opportunity and look forward to continuing to work with the city's many experienced employees and valuable partner organizations," Erickson said.
City Manager Ed Zuercher praised the work that Erickson has done in the past.
"For nearly three decades at the city, Erickson has been a champion for programs and services that elevate our youth, support our families and promote health and wellness in our community," Zuercher said.
