The Arizona Cardinals are preparing for the 2025 NFL draft with only six selections, marking the lowest number of picks since Monti Ossenfort became the general manager in 2023. With their first pick positioned at No. 16 overall, the Cardinals are in a strategic position to enhance their team. Although they addressed certain needs in free agency, the organization, under the direction of head coach Jonathan Gannon and Ossenfort, maintains a draft-and-develop approach.

Revamping the secondary has been a significant focus since Gannon, who has a background as a defensive back, joined the team. Over the past two years, the team has drafted five cornerbacks, including Garrett Williams, Max Melton, Elijah Jones, Kei'Trel Clark, and Jaden Davis. Starling Thomas V was also added after going undrafted in 2023. Despite their commendable performance in 2024, with three consecutive home games without allowing a touchdown, the majority of this group has fewer than two full seasons of experience.

As the draft approaches, predictions suggest that the Cardinals might lean towards selecting a cornerback. Michigan's Will Johnson has emerged as a popular choice among experts, with Jahdae Barron from Texas also being a potential contender due to his physicality in zone coverage. "It's a room that Gannon will continue to highlight," indicating the importance of building a strong defensive strategy.

While it may be logical for the Cardinals to consider focusing on the defensive line, the addition of a skillful cornerback would be welcomed, particularly if it involves one of the highlighted prospects. Ossenfort has the flexibility to use one of the remaining five draft picks to further strengthen this position.
