An actor Jacoby Brissett is not. Yet, the veteran quarterback has found a new home with the Arizona Cardinals, signing a two-year contract as a free agent. Known for his backup quarterback skills, Brissett was recently featured in a national commercial spot, alongside other backup QBs like Colt McCoy and Joshua Dobbs.
Brissett humorously remarked on his commercial experience: "I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing," adding that it was "pretty cool" but likely his last venture into acting.
The Cardinals are familiar with Brissett's work ethic. He started 11 games in Cleveland when current Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing and quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork were on staff. Additionally, he spent three seasons with the Colts under Jonathan Gannon and was drafted by New England while Monti Ossenfort was the Patriots' director of college scouting.
Brissett had considered joining the Cardinals last season but opted to return to New England for more starting opportunities. His relationship with Woolfork and Petzing played a significant role in his decision to join Arizona this time around. "I've wanted to be back with Drew, back with Israel," Brissett said.
With over 1,761 pass attempts in his career, Brissett brings experience to the Cardinals. He boasts 11,400 yards, 53 touchdown passes, and only 24 interceptions—a record low interception percentage of 1.4% in NFL history.
Brissett will compete against Clayton Tune for the backup position behind Kyler Murray. Reflecting on his role, he emphasized the importance of teamwork: "In that room you want allies," he said.
The commercials also featured Texans backup Case Keenum as one who hasn't been part of the Cardinals yet—no indication if he might join them in the future.
Brissett remains focused on being prepared and supportive: "(You need) patience, always staying ready, being a good teammate," he stated about his career approach.
