The Phoenix Mercury have announced the induction of Diana Taurasi into the Mercury Ring of Honor, set for the summer of 2026. Taurasi, a three-time WNBA Champion and the league's all-time leading scorer, will be the sixth individual to receive this accolade from the franchise.
"Diana is the greatest of all time. What she has done over the last 20 years is truly remarkable," said Phoenix Mercury and Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia. "From championships to MVPs to gold medals, she is one of the most decorated athletes of all time and we’re excited to celebrate all she’s done for the sport, the franchise and our city with her induction into our Ring of Honor."
Taurasi's uniform number (No. 3) will be retired alongside those of Jennifer Gillom, Cheryl Miller, Bridget Pettis, Penny Taylor, and Michele Timms in this honor.
Drafted No. 1 overall by Phoenix in 2004, Taurasi played her entire career with the Mercury across two decades (2004-14, 2016-24). Her statistics include an average of 18.8 points per game over 565 regular-season games. She joins notable players like Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki as one of few who have spent 20 or more seasons with a single team in NBA/WNBA history.
Taurasi led her team to three championships (2007, 2009, 2014) and achieved numerous accolades including being a 14-time All-WNBA selection and an 11-time WNBA All-Star. In addition to these achievements, she was voted as WNBA’s Greatest Player of All-Time in 2021.
In July 2024, a new practice facility was opened by the Mercury featuring courts named after Taurasi that celebrate her impact on basketball.
The upcoming season for Phoenix Mercury begins on May 17 against Seattle Storm at their home ground.
