The Arizona Cardinals ended their 2024 season with eight wins, a notable improvement from their previous two seasons with only four victories each. General Manager Monti Ossenfort is focused on further enhancing the team for the 2025 season, starting with free agency.
Ossenfort, recognized for his successful draft strategies, now turns to free agency to bolster the team's roster. "It's a step in the right direction," he said about the team's progress.
As part of this effort, the Cardinals are evaluating their wide receiver position. Last year saw them draft Marvin Harrison Jr., who quickly became a key player despite not fully meeting expectations. Harrison scored eight touchdowns and gained 885 yards during his rookie season. Ossenfort praised Harrison's dedication: "He's been in the facility every day since the season ended."
Michael Wilson also aims to improve after feeling he didn't reach his potential last year. Meanwhile, Zay Jones, acquired through free agency last season, had limited impact with just eight catches for 84 yards.
The team seeks to fill a gap for a fast downfield target. Greg Dortch enters free agency as a restricted agent, and if he departs, it would leave a void in speed capability. The Cardinals have already added Quez Watkins from the Eagles but remain open to additional acquisitions either through free agency or drafting new talent.
Enhancing their offensive options could benefit other players like tight end Trey McBride and strengthen overall team performance.
Historically, notable wide receivers such as A.J. Green (2021) and Ted Ginn (2014) have joined the Cardinals through free agency.
